Final Fantasy IV, originally known as Final Fantasy II in North America, is a classic role-playing game developed and published by Square (now Square Enix) for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). It was released in 1991 in Japan and 1991-1992 in other regions.

In Final Fantasy IV, players follow the story of Cecil Harvey, a dark knight who questions the actions of his king and sets out on a quest for redemption and to save the world from impending doom. Throughout the game, players navigate through a richly detailed fantasy world, encountering a diverse cast of characters and engaging in battles against various enemies and powerful bosses.

The gameplay in Final Fantasy IV features turn-based combat with the Active Time Battle (ATB) system, where characters take turns executing commands based on their individual speed. Players can assemble a party of up to five characters, each with their unique abilities and roles in battle. As the story progresses, new party members join, and players have to strategically select their party members to create a balanced team.

Final Fantasy IV introduced several innovative features for its time, such as the "DualTech" and "TripleTech" abilities, which allowed characters to combine their skills for more powerful attacks. The game also introduced a dynamic storyline with memorable characters and impactful plot twists, marking a departure from the more straightforward narratives of earlier Final Fantasy titles.

Visually, Final Fantasy IV on the SNES featured detailed 2D graphics and character sprites, complemented by a memorable soundtrack composed by Nobuo Uematsu. The game received critical acclaim upon its release, praised for its engaging story, character development, and strategic gameplay mechanics.

Since its original release on the SNES, Final Fantasy IV has been ported and remade for various platforms, including the Nintendo DS, PlayStation, Game Boy Advance, and more. These versions often include enhanced graphics, additional content, and improved gameplay mechanics while staying true to the core elements of the original game.
