Strider is an action-platformer video game developed and published by Capcom. While Strider originated as an arcade game, it was also released for several home platforms, including the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The NES version of Strider was released in 1989.

In Strider, players assume the role of Hiryu, a skilled ninja assassin known as a Strider. Hiryu is equipped with a plasma sword called the Cypher, which he uses to slice through enemies and navigate the game's levels. The game is set in a dystopian future where Hiryu must infiltrate the city of Kazakh and eliminate its ruler, Grandmaster Meio.

Strider for the NES features side-scrolling gameplay with a mix of platforming and combat. Hiryu can perform various acrobatic moves, such as running on walls and flipping in mid-air, adding a dynamic and fast-paced feel to the gameplay. Along the way, Hiryu encounters a wide range of enemies and powerful bosses that require different strategies to defeat.

One notable aspect of Strider is its non-linear structure. Players have some freedom in choosing their path through the game, allowing for multiple routes and secret areas to be discovered. Additionally, Hiryu can collect power-ups and health-restoring items to aid him in his mission.

While the NES version of Strider received positive reviews, it is worth noting that there are differences between the arcade original and the NES port. The NES version had some graphical and gameplay changes due to hardware limitations. Nevertheless, it still captured the essence of the arcade game and provided an enjoyable experience for NES players.

Strider has since become a beloved franchise, with sequels and spin-offs released on various platforms. The NES version remains a nostalgic title for many fans of the era, showcasing Capcom's prowess in creating action-packed and visually appealing games.
