Ys IV: Mask of the Sun is an action role-playing game developed by Tonkin House and released for the Super Famicom (the Japanese version of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System) in 1993. It is part of the Ys series, created by Nihon Falcom.
In Ys IV: Mask of the Sun, players once again assume the role of Adol Christin, the adventurer and protagonist of the series. The game takes place in the land of Celceta, where Adol finds himself in the middle of a conflict involving ancient civilizations, mythical artifacts, and the struggle for power.
The gameplay of Ys IV: Mask of the Sun is an action-oriented, hack-and-slash style. Players control Adol as he explores various environments, battles enemies, and uncovers the secrets of the land. The combat system involves attacking enemies by running into them, utilizing Adol's unique skills and abilities. Throughout the game, Adol gains experience, levels up, and acquires new equipment to strengthen his abilities.
Ys IV: Mask of the Sun features an immersive storyline, engaging gameplay, and a memorable soundtrack composed by the legendary Yuzo Koshiro. It is important to note that Ys IV: Mask of the Sun for the Super Famicom is a separate game from the PC Engine versions, Ys IV: Mask of the Sun and Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys.
While the Super Famicom version of Ys IV: Mask of the Sun is not considered the official canonical version, it still holds a place in the series and is enjoyed by fans of the Ys franchise.
