Ys V: Lost Kefin, Kingdom of Sand is an action role-playing game developed by Nihon Falcom and released for the Super Famicom (the Japanese version of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System) in 1995. It is the fifth installment in the long-running Ys series.
In Ys V, players once again take control of the series' protagonist, Adol Christin. The game introduces a new setting, the Kingdom of Sand, which is a vast desert region. Adol finds himself in the town of Redmont, where he becomes embroiled in a conflict involving an ancient evil and the mysterious city of Kefin.
The gameplay in Ys V follows the action-oriented, hack-and-slash style that the series is known for. Players control Adol as he explores various areas, battles enemies in real-time combat, and uncovers the secrets of the Kingdom of Sand. Adol's abilities can be upgraded through experience gained from defeating enemies, and new equipment can be acquired to enhance his combat prowess.
Ys V: Lost Kefin, Kingdom of Sand departs from the traditional top-down perspective found in earlier Ys games and instead uses a side-scrolling viewpoint. This change in perspective allows for more platforming elements, as players navigate through various environments and encounter different challenges.
The game features a captivating storyline, memorable characters, and an impressive soundtrack composed by the series' veteran composer, Yuzo Koshiro. It is important to note that Ys V: Lost Kefin, Kingdom of Sand was originally released exclusively in Japan for the Super Famicom and did not receive an official English localization.
While Ys V is considered one of the less prominent entries in the series, it still holds a place in the Ys franchise and offers an enjoyable action RPG experience for fans of the series and retro gaming enthusiasts.
